We believe that it is the responsibility of governments, and their citizens, to become active in the overall success of underserved communities. It is the mission of The Big Heart Project to organize, educate, and activate veterans, and low- to moderate-income residents, to become leaders in the transformation of blighted communities in Illinois, and around the country. We envision a future where redevelopment is community controlled, and threats of gentrification have been abated by community-focused models that emphasize shared equity, and land stewardship. Until the realization of that achievable future, we are committed to the advocacy and development of affordable housing; thus enforcing the human right to housing.
